I resisted for years, but I finally bought a digital camera. I didn't want a cheap point and shoot (although I'm certain the next P&S we buy will be digital), and I'm not rich. Which meant that I had to wait long enough for digital SLRs to become, if not actually inexpensive, less expensive than the $3000 to $6000 they have cost for the last couple of years.
I have lots of Nikon gear, so rather than dump it all and start over with Canon, I've been waiting for Nikon to release a digital SLR that I could afford that would provide a feature set that appealed to me. I had been planning on purchasing a D100, but last fall Nikon announced the development of the D70. This is a similarly capable dSLR to the D100, same resolution, etc. There are some feature differences between the two, but ultimately I decided the differences weren't enough to justify spending an extra $500 for the D100.
For now I'm putting the D70 images in their own gallery, which you can see here. I have been shooting in RAW mode, and then tweaking the images in Nikon Capture. I'm still working on my technique, so hopefully my images will improve with practice.
Spent most of last week at the beach. It was a bit cold, but it didn't rain til Sunday.
Every time I go to the beach (or really anywhere, now that I think about it), I conclude that I'd really rather not have to work for a living. I could easily come up with things I'd rather spend my time doing other than being a corporate slave. Trouble is, most of those things do require that I have an income... dangit.
Anyway, back to work and bills and homework and a cluttered house. Good thing we're going back in a couple months or I'd never make it.
UConn 79
Dook 78
The Evil Empire has been defeated thanks to an 11-3 run by UConn to end the game.
Emeka Okafor is pretty danged good.
Go Tech! If they win Monday night, I finish 2nd in our pool. If Oklahoma State had come through tonight, and subesquently beat UConn Monday, I would have won the pool...
As long as I'm sitting here, might as well bitch about Dook.
I hate them. With a most unhealthy hatred. And judging by the noise in the arena in San Antonio, I'm not alone. I'm tired of hearing about them, about how great Coach K is, with his foul mouth and whiny "Everybody hates us" shtick.
When he was a new coach in the ACC he whined about how Dean Smith got all the calls, the refs showed him favor. Now that he's the senior coach in the league, he has the gall to claim no such favortism exists...
Bah.
If he's such a Great Man, why did he have all those losses from their crappy 1995 season (when he was on leave for "exhaustion") expunged from his record and given to his hapless assistant? Even Gary Williams showed more class than that.
And it looks like they'll play Georgia Tech for the title, and will likely beat them easily. And we'll have to hear all year about it.
Sigh. So it goes. Think I'd be used to it by now.
What the heck is up with the bizarre comments showing up on all my entries? Frickin weird. And a giant pain in the ass to clean up since I have to delete them all.
Wonder if Movable Type has a means of preventing, or at least reducing, these spam-like comments... Have to look into that.
